Dale Chihuly

In art class just recently we did a sculpture piece. We were using Dale Chihuly as a inspiration. Dale Chihuly is a world famous glass blower who makes many gorgeous sculptures. After he graduated from the University of Washington he took a trip to Venice, where he studied how to blow glass. Venice is the number one place in the world where glass is the best.
Some of his master pieces are in various buildings like this one. This glass window is in a hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In 1976 Chihuly was involved with a head on car accident in England. He flew though the windshield and was cut severely. He was then blinded in his left eye. After he recovered he continued blowing glass until his body surfing accident when he threw his right shoulder out of place, No longer able to hold the glass to blow it, he hired many young helpers who could help him blow the objects. Chilhuly now describes his role in his artwork is "more choreographer than dancer, more supervisor than participant, more director than actor". He basically tells people what he wants done.

His work is included in over 200 musuems, and he has been nominated for 11  honorary doctorates.

Art Class

Just last week my art class took a walk down mainstreet to a aparment building. Weird right?, well when we got upstairs I saw the most coolest thing ever! A women carving slate chinks into wonderful peices of work. She talked to us about how she first started art, she drew alot, because in her school there wasnt any scultpure classes. Anyways, she continued about how she went to Ireland to continue her study in Form. Form is  a principle in art. She focused in form very well in high school and continued in her college years. I dont really remember her name very well, but she has a studio in poultney above the pharamacy. She has carved slate since 2003, so she has many peices of work. I will ask my art teacher if I could have some of those pictures she toke and post them on here for you guys. This slate carver let us carve into some slate. She makes very beautiful peices, she did a headstone for a lady with roman lettering, a rare lettering that no one really teaches anymore. I hope this women comes along way with her work, I thought it was beauitful. Congrats!

William R. Davis (Bill Davis)

"Calm Day in Boston Harbor" by William Robert Davis, is a oil painting, done on a 22"x42", was painted after the Boston Harbor. William Davis is one of the best marine artists in the world, because of the fact of how he uses oils instead of waterpaints. Most water artists use watercolors, where William uses oil and makes the water look like it is moving and the reflection in the water from the boats. William's paintings have won many awards for Excellence. Willaim grew up in Cape Cod, he toke interest in the way the water appeared he soon started to paint them. His favorite paints were oil. He used water colors before but never really cared for them. Not many artists use oil paints for marine peices. His favorite time of the day to paint is the sunset, because of how the sun hits the water and how it makes the water look red, yellow, and orange instead of blue. His famous peice, "Boston Harbor at Sunset", show this. I think Will does a great job using oils painting the water peices, but wouldn't watercolors be better? Let me now what you think of his paintings at this website, http://williamrdavis.net/.

Joseph Willibrod Mahler

Joseph was known for his portiat darwing of many composers, like this one of, "Beethoveen", an his multi-talented gift, was born in the template 1778 in Germany. During his years of painting he went to study in Vienni, Italy. He decided to have a civil career, so painting is just a hobby to him. He painted 3/4 of Beethoveens' body, with him holding a lyre in his hand. Joseph painted about seven of these portiats, with other composers, like Antonio Salieri.
To me Joseph was a skilled painter and a good one, but I don't think he loved to do it as much as other famous painters. His paintings seem realistic, like the shades and tints of the paint on the canvas. Tell me your facts about Joseph paintings, and how real his paintings look to you.

Giotto di Bondone

This painting is called, "Madonna and Child", by Giotto di Bondone. Bondone was born in Italy, around 1266. This painting was painted for the church of the Ognissanti in Flourence. The painting was a large painting 325 x 204 cm and was painted with tempera paints on a canvas.               This painting bascially showed the Virgin Mary and Chriest Child sitting on her lap.
I, personally like this painting by Bondone, because of the way he made it look, like the texture and the colors he used was very good. I especially liked how he got the angels in the bottom corners, to show that they were being watch from guardian angels. What do you like about this painting? How does it effect you? What do you think the angels mean?

Edgar Degas

Add caption

Happy Valentines Day! I hope your day is filled with love and joy.
The portiat you see here is of Leon Bonnat, who was a French painter. This portiat was painted by Edgar Degas. Edgar was also a French artist, he was born in Paris, France, in 1834. Edgar is famous for painting of depict dancers. He mostly painted nude women. Even though he was really good at it, he alsways wanted to be a history artist, ever since he was a little boy. He came from a family of bankers.
I actually liked his paintings, especially the dancers, mostly because of how he captured the movement of the body and how he got the shapes of their bodies.
What's your favorite painting by Edgar Degas? Look him up and look for your favorite painting.

              Happy Valentines Day!

Starry Night

This is a famous painting, can you tell me who? Here is a hint this painting was created in Saint-Rémy, France in June, 1889. The artist is named Vincent Van Gough. One of the many reasons this is the most loved painting in the world is becuase of the way the brush strokes are on the canvas, he painted with oil paints on a blank canvas. Gough got this idea for this painting while he was staying in Aries, a french kingdom, looking out the window. He first created a pen sketch of this peice and then used oil paints to make the orignal painting.
This is my favorite piece of work because of how he made the colors mixed with each oher and how he used mostly cool colors and a little of warm. What does this painting mean to you? What's your opion? Tell me please it might have a impact on how I see things different from you.
