Mona Lisa

The Mona Lisa is a painting, done by Leonardo Da'Vinci. The painting was painted with oil paints on a white canvas. Completed in 1519, the Mona Lisa was brought to King Francis I of France. Leonardo started the painting in 1503 in Florence, Italy. He finsished the painting before he died in 1519. The King bought the Mona Lisa for 4,000 ecus. The painting remained in the palace until it was given to Louis XIV. Louis XIV put the painting to the Palace of Versailles. The painting was not well known, until the mid-19th century.
The Mona Lisa was named after the women who posed for the portiat, Lisa del Giocondo.

  1. Many people who have seen this in Paris are "underwhelmed" because so much is made of this painting. It is very small, under bulletproof glass, and difficult to see. I prefer the Madonna of the Rocks. Check it out.
